Development of a complete set of technologies for sequential recovery of feldspar, quartz and mica from porphyry molybdenum tailings and extraction of lithium from mica
1. Technical Background
Subsidiaries, namely, Jindi Mining and Fengning Xinyuan Molybdenum Tailings, were taken as research objects in this project, and a new product has been developed (excluding sand gravel aggregates) based on the physicochemical properties of and minerals contained in molybdenum tailings. The utilizable mineral components contained in molybdenum tailings are copper (already utilized), iron, tungsten, potassium, feldspar, quartz, mica, etc. At present, the key technology to be developed is to increase the lithium content in mica in molybdenum tailings to more than 0.3 percent through flotation technology, and to leach lithium from mica through independent research and cooperation; quartz feldspar is to be separated from molybdenum tailings by flotation or color separation.
2. Project Prospect
(1) The successful implementation of this project is expected to tackle the technology difficulty in the extraction of lithium from low-grade lithium mica, overcome the difficulty in the separation of quartz and feldspar with new drugs, and realize the comprehensive utilization of molybdenum tailings and transfer them into high-value lithium and mineral products such as quartz and feldspar.
(2) It is expected to realize the comprehensive utilization of molybdenum tailings and transfer them into high-value lithium and mineral products while reducing the stock of molybdenum tailings.
(3) With the deepening of green mine construction in China, the central government advocates "tailless" mines, which not only solves the problem of tailings consumption, but also helps to develop new mineral products, creating huge economic benefits.
